Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
what do you guy think of this pistol
Its cheap fits my budget Is cheap a bad thing? http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/images/ssi/26232.jpg I like the 5 1/2in barrel http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/prod...ducts_id=96917 |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
It's great for target practice at the range. And ammo is cheap. No real stopping power though.

Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
I would stick with a Ruger Mk II or III. Very reliable (AK reliable) and spare/aftermarket parts are everywhere. JMO. Bx3

TK,
Not a bad price. But you should be able to find a Walther P22 for about the same money. Even though the MSRP is $362, my Dad bought one for like $320 WITH the Walther laser. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...04&isFirearm=Y |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
I know next to nothing about guns..
So far i just have a 38 special and a ruger 22 rifle I know I want at least a 4in barrel but 6in would be better How's a 9mm for stopping power? and Whats the ammo cost like on a 9mm ? |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
9mm is your enyry level caliber as far as a self defense auto pistol round, IMO.
Ammo? 9mm is hard to find, along with everything else. .22 ammo is cheap compared to anything else. .22 and a 9mm are two very different calibers with different purposes. |

It's very tacticool looking, but that's its only selling point. A German guy on rimfirecentral pointed out that these two guns are live-firing conversions of blank-firing pistols originally sold in Europe, and that's the reason that they won't hold up to even 22LR use very well. The design was originally intended to only fire blanks. The early buyers stories of failures bordered on comical. I think the Ruger pistols are farckin ugly, but they are better-made overall: Walther P22 and SIG mosquito = zinc & plastic S&W 22 pistols = steel slide & aluminum frame (22S is better,,, stainless frame) Ruger pistols = all steel, plus you can get them in all-stainless. -end- |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
ok
Now I am finding 9mm autos that are in my price range But at Buds (great prices)they said it cant be sold in Ca. cause of the High cap. mag. so now I gotta look for a 9mm that doesn't have a High cap. mag. ??????????? |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
I purchased one earlier this summer. Wanted another .22LR to shoot besides the Beretta conversion top I use on my 92.
Fun gun. Accurate. Reliable. Easy to clean. At least that's what I found out when I had my GF clean it yesterday. Went about 2000 rounds before doing so. She's new to shooting and really enjoying it. I've got a inexpensive Bushnell red dot and 3 additional magazines for $427 w/tax. That's from a friend with an FFL though. |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
If you are new to handguns, I receommend you get a revolver as your first gun. They are much easier and somewhat safer (for all concerned) to learn on, letting you concentrate more on skill and safe handling practices and not on user controls and malfunction diagnosis.

Uh, the ORIGINAL Walther P22 MADE IN GERMANY did have problems. Those issues have been resolved a LONG time ago. You ARE aware that ALL NEW Walthers sold in the USA ARE MADE BY S&W, right? And the zinc & plastic comment - sounds like the same thing that has been said about the early GLOCK. The AK of pistols. ALWAYS WORKS regardless of what you do to it. NO, I'm NOT saying that the P22 IS A GLOCK. Just your statements show lack of knowledge about this particular firearm. The S&W is a steel/polymer firearm as well. Polymer part is the lower portion of the frame. NOT a bad thing when done correctly. And S&W knows how to do it correctly. On both their handguns AND Walthers they produce. I've shot the P22. Nice little handgun. Very lite. Ammo picky for sure, but when you find ammo that works great, it ALWAYS works great. Not an all steel Ruger by any means, but I sold all my Ruger made firearms more than ten years ago. NOT because of how they are made, but because of Bill Rugers stance on motorcycles - he told HIS employees that if they rode motorcycles and did NOT wear a helmet, his company insurance would NOT cover them - FOR ANYTHING - not just on motorcycle accident - and the state Ruger is made in is helmet optional (as long as you are older than 18). I sold all my S&W's when Thompson bought them and then caved to the Clinton admin. Still don't own either companies firearms. I NEVER WILL. Just that kind of guy. LONG MEMORY and I vote with my wallet. Probably won't ever own a Walther for that very reason. |

There's at least two generations of the P22: the first is horrible, the second one is better but still not the greatest. The best I can advise is to educate yourself online before you go shopping for one of these guns. -end- |
Re: Smith & Wesson Model 22A Rimfire Pistol
A 22 isn't too good as a primary defense weapon? Well no s***, but 22 pistols are a lot of fun. I have 4 of them, including a Mod 22 Smith. My biggest gripe on the pistol is the grip is too big but it's reliable, accurate, has a good trigger and is fun to shoot. The rail allows easy mounting of red dot sights.
If the purpose is self defense, look elsewhere than a 22. |

You can check what's legal and what's not in California here. http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ I had to use it to find out that I couldn't purchase a Colt Combat Elite here. :thumpdown |
